Placing Your Licence on Hold

Placing Your Licence on Hold

Across the sector there are licensees who may need to place their licence on “hold” for a variety of reasons, including maternity or parental leave, serious illness or injury, or other reasons approved by the CMRAO’s Registrar. Here are some helpful pointers if you intend to place your licence on hold:

  • Requests of this nature must be submitted to the CMRAO prior to the start of the leave.
  • The duration of leave must be at least six months.
  • Individuals cannot provide condominium management services while their licence is on hold.

Requests to place a licence on hold

Submit the following to licensing@cmrao.ca:

  • the reason for your request
  • the start date of your leave
  • your expected return date
  • confirmation of your leave from your employer’s Human Resources department
  • any other supporting documentation requested by the CMRAO

Reinstating your licence

Prior to the return date, individuals will be required to submit an application for reinstatement. The $150 reinstatement application fee will be refunded after the application is submitted. The CMRAO will review the application, and the annual licensing fee will be prorated to account for the period of the leave. You cannot return to work until your application has been approved and the licence has been reinstated.

Education requirements for General Licensees

General Licensees may continue to accumulate Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits while their licence is on hold. Once the licence is reinstated, General Licensees must complete the following number of CPE credits prior to renewing their licence for the next licensing year:

  • Return date between July 1 and December 31: 10 CPE credits to renew General Licence after reinstatement
  • Return date between January 1 and June 30: 5 CPE credits to renew General Licence after reinstatement

By law, condominium managers are required to maintain an active licence to provide condominium management services in Ontario. Additional information related to licence reinstatement is available on our website.
