Excellence in Condominium Management: New Education Program in Effect November 1
The educational path to professional condominium management in Ontario is evolving. These changes will help shape a new generation of condominium managers who will be well-prepared to support the massive growth in the province’s condominium industry.
In 2017, the Minister of Government and Consumer Services designated the courses and challenge exams developed by the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO) as the education and examination requirements necessary to qualify for a General Licence. On November 1, 2021, this authority will transfer to the Registrar of the CMRAO, and new education requirements for all licensees will be in effect.
Presently, Limited Licensees who meet the mandatory licensing requirements can begin working with little knowledge of the sector. This will change on November 1, when all applicants who want to enter the condominium management profession must complete Excellence in Condominium Management, an introductory course that sets clear expectations of the role, responsibilities, and legal and ethical obligations of a condominium manager. Candidates must successfully pass this course to qualify for a Limited Licence.
New Limited Licence applicants will enrol for the mandatory Excellence in Condominium Management course starting on November 1, 2021, when they apply for their licence. The first session is scheduled to begin November 16. Once the online course and examination are successfully completed, applicants will receive their Limited Licence and can begin providing condominium management services, as long as they meet all other licensing requirements.
Additional information about the timelines to complete the Excellence in Condominium Management course, scheduling, and the registration process will be available on the CMRAO website as updates become available.
Beginning with Excellence in Condominium Management, the CMRAO’s new education program provides the essential knowledge necessary for a career in condominium management and helps to close any gaps between any previous education and real-world experiences. It is another exciting step that further reinforces the professionalization of Ontario’s rapidly expanding condominium management sector.
