Update on the CMRAO Licence Renewal Period

I am writing to provide you with an important update regarding the licence renewal period for this year. But first, a bit of context.

The CMRAO began accepting licence applications on November 1, 2017, and the original deadline to apply for a licence was January 29, 2018. Given that this is the first year of licensing, a decision was made to extend the deadline to March 30, which provided an additional opportunity for qualified condo managers to apply for their licence. We received an additional 400 applications between January 30 and March 30. CMRAO staff have worked tirelessly to get us this far, and I am pleased to announce that we are now in the homestretch.

Generally, the annual renewal process begins in May, when a notice is sent to licensees reminding them to login to their account and update their information. During the month of June, licensees would then complete the renewal application and pay the annual licensing fee.

Considering that this is a transition year, and because the licence application deadline was extended to March 30, I have decided to extend the period for application and payment of licence renewals for the 2018-19 licensing year. Notices will go out on July 1, and we will accept renewal applications and payments for the 2018-19 licensing year during the month of August.

To ensure that there is no breakage in licensure, information in the CMRAO’s system will be updated to reflect this change. Licensed individuals and companies can continue offering condo management services as long as they submit their renewal applications by August 31, 2018.
The steps for the 2018-19 renewal process are as follows:
For individual condo managers

  • On July 1, the CMRAO will send a notice to all licensees.
  • Beginning August 1, all licensed individuals will log in to the system, complete the renewal application form and pay the annual fee for the 2018-19 licensing year.

For condo management companies

  • On July 1, the CMRAO will send a notice to all licensees.
  • During the month of July, licensed companies will be required to log in to their account and validate their roster of licensed employees. The system will be set up so that all principal condominium managers can access their company’s account and make these updates.
  • On July 31 at 11:59 p.m., the system will calculate the annual licensing fee for all licensed companies based on the information in the system.
  • Beginning August 1, all licensed companies will log in to the system, complete the renewal application form and pay the annual fee for the 2018-19 licensing year.

Next year (2019-20), the CMRAO will follow the regular licence renewal process beginning on May 1, 2019, and ending June 30, 2019, but for this transition year, it was important to make this adjustment.
