Your Education Path

The new education requirements, effective November 1, 2021, may affect your pathway to a General licence depending on the number of courses you have completed, or whether you currently hold a licence issued by the CMRAO. See which pathway is right for you.

Education Requirements

In addition to all other requirements, individuals must complete certain education requirements to obtain a licence form the CMRAO.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Process

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) describes a process used by the CMRAO to ensure a fair assessment of the credentials and qualifications of applicants who have not completed the recognized coursework required to hold a General Licence.

Important Message about Licensing and the CMRAO’s New Education Program

In addition to all other requirements, individuals applying for a licence must complete certain education requirements to obtain a licence from the CMRAO to provide condominium management services. New education requirements came into effect on November 1, 2021, which may have an impact on the courses that are required to be eligible for a licence from the CMRAO.

If you have taken NO required courses before November 1, 2021:

As part of the application process for a Limited Licence, applicants must successfully complete Excellence in Condominium Management, the first course of the new education program, which is mandatory.

If you wish to pursue a General Licence, in addition to all other licensing requirements, you must successfully complete the following courses that are approved by the CMRAO:

If you have taken ANY required courses before November 1, 2021:

Prior to November 1, 2021, there were four courses developed by the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO), available to qualify for a General Licence:

  • Condominium Administration and Human Relations
  • Condominium Law
  • Financial Planning for Condominium Managers
  • Physical Building Management

All applicants for a General Licence who have enrolled in or have completed any of the above courses prior to November 1, 2021, AND who successfully complete all of these courses by October 31, 2022, will have complied with the educational requirements for a General Licence.

If you have registered for, or completed any of these four courses prior to November 1, 2021, you have until October 31, 2022, to successfully complete all these courses. If you do not complete all four of these courses by October 31, 2022, you will not be eligible for a General Licence, and will have to complete the education requirements set by the Registrar of the CMRAO.
