Condominium Management
Regulatory Authority of Ontario

Message from the CEO/Registrar: One-Year Anniversary

The Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario (CMRAO) was designated through provincial legislation, the Condominium Management Services Act, 2015 (CMSA), to license and regulate the condo management profession in the interest of the public.

It is hard to believe that just over one year ago the condominium management sector was unregulated. Today, condo managers are professionals who must be licensed like many other occupations across Ontario.

The CMRAO’s responsibility as a regulator involves reminding licensees of their responsibilities under legislation, as well as enforcement and compliance. As a modern regulator, our approach relies on data with a focus on measurement and on ensuring that our licensees have the education, resources, and support they need to fulfill their legal and ethical obligations.

With our first licensing and renewal cycle now complete, we are beginning to see the trends through the data we have accumulated about the sector so far and look forward to sharing these insights with the condominium community over the next year.

We will continue to ensure that useful information is provided in a timely manner that is both accessible and easy to understand so condo managers can readily meet their legal and ethical obligations as CMRAO licensees.

To increase public confidence in the work we do, in the coming year we will raise public awareness of the professional standards in place and communicate our role in ensuring that these standards are met.
