Condominium Management
Regulatory Authority of Ontario

January 22, 2018

The start of a new calendar year is an obvious time to talk about new beginnings. As a new administrative authority, the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario (CMRAO) provides oversight of condo management companies and managers to help protect consumers in Ontario’s complex and rapidly growing condo industry.
Though my tenure as CEO and Registrar has only just begun, I must acknowledge the work that is already well underway. Even before the official launch of the CMRAO on November 1, 2017, our small but dedicated team was at work behind the scenes developing our regulatory framework and building the infrastructure that supports our operations. My thanks to the entire team for their dedication to our mandate.

The CMRAO is here to ensure that licensing standards are met, but also to provide useful tools and valuable information that helps condo managers understand and meet their education and licensing requirements. We have just developed, Do I Need a Licence? Interpreting the Definition of “Providing Condo Management Services  a comprehensive guide and a valuable tool that we hope will assist potential licensing applicants better understand if their services fall within the scope of the legislation.
We are a new organization, but we have an important role to play in the sector. I look forward to building on a strong foundation and leading the organization as we strengthen the condo management profession.
