Message from the CEO/Registrar about the Emergency Order and Essential Workplaces

The Government of Ontario continues to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation and is taking the necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of all Ontarians. Yesterday, the government announced the mandatory closure of all at-risk workplaces in Ontario to minimize the spread of coronavirus, effective today, March 24, at 11:59 p.m. Businesses have been encouraged to explore opportunities to continue operations through remote working and other innovative business models.

Condominium managers and administrative authorities, such as the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario (CMRAO) have been identified as essential services:

Institutional, residential, commercial and industrial maintenance

13. Businesses that provide support and maintenance services, including urgent repair, to maintain the safety, security, sanitation and essential operation of institutional, commercial, industrial and residential properties and buildings, including, property management services, plumbers, electricians, custodial/janitorial workers, cleaning services, security services, fire safety and sprinkler systems, building systems maintenance and repair technicians and engineers, mechanics, (e.g. HVAC, escalator and elevator technicians), and other service providers who provide similar services

Business regulators and inspectors

74. Organizations, including Administrative Authorities, that regulate and inspect businesses

Although essential businesses remain unaffected by the province-wide mandatory closure, they have been asked to put into place as many measures as possible to safeguard the well-being of their employees while maintaining business continuity. This order does not affect online and teleworking operations. Condominium managers can continue to operate, but limit in-person interactions, and maintain the recommended physical distance as much as possible.

Condo managers can continue to contact the CMRAO by email or phone for information. The COVID-19 situation is constantly evolving, and the CMRAO is here to provide support to condominium communities across the province through this crisis.

The full list of essential services is available for viewing on the Government of Ontario website.
