Condominium Management
Regulatory Authority of Ontario

Message from the Chair: One-Year Anniversary

Doors and doorways are symbolic of transition and new beginnings. They distinguish passageways from one space to the next and represent movement. They encapsulate a moment in time and symbolize a transition phase as you pass through the physical structure. Change can be imagined as a doorway full of opportunity and choice, and the condominium sector has seen plenty of both.

Although the doors of the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario (CMRAO) opened only one year ago, a lot has been accomplished collectively. On November 1, 2017, the CMRAO was designated as the administrative authority responsible for licensing and regulating the condominium management sector. We recognize and appreciate how quickly licensees responded to the new licensing requirements.

The CMRAO understands and values the distinct roles of industry associations and other partner organizations as we work together to maintain and enhance the integrity and standards of the condo management sector. We want to acknowledge the active role that you have played in this process of improving the value and reputation of the sector.

Our authority as a regulator was set out in legislation, but we work in the public interest to protect consumers in Ontario’s complex and rapidly growing condominium sector. Our oversight is elevating the delivery of responsible condo management services in Ontario and bringing professionalism to the sector.

We have now moved beyond the door and passed through to the other side: Regulation is now a reality in Ontario’s condominium sector. This transition happened smoothly, effectively, and efficiently, and we have accomplished this valuable work together./newsroom/messages-from-the-chair-of-the-board/message-from-the-chair-One-Year/oneyearlogo.jpg
