The Code of Ethics: Promoting Professionalism, Reliability, and Quality of Service

In general, a code of ethics is a written set of rules that help people and organizations understand the difference between right and wrong, which they can then apply to their decision making.

The CMRAO works in the public interest to build trust in condominium management services and to protect condominium communities. Licensed condominium managers and management companies must follow a number of rules as outlined in the Condominium Management Services Act, 2015 (CMSA) and under the Code of Ethics regulation that came into effect on February 1, 2018.

These rules were developed by the provincial government but are enforced by the CMRAO. The Code of Ethics sets out, in regulation, the ethical obligations of individuals and businesses providing condominium management services and establishes a standard of good practice, governs the way professional condo managers should behave, and promotes professionalism, reliability, and quality of service.

Some of the obligations outlined in the Code of Ethics include professionalism, financial responsibility, conscientious and competent service, and quality of service.

If an individual or business violated the Code of Ethics, a complaint could be filed against them, which could lead to disciplinary actions.
